Wut da Fug?

Every now and then, Sisyphus rolls that "simplified spelling" rock uphill. May I be in my grave a thousand years before this catches on.

In Kindergarten, they tried to teach my older child to "sound spell," essentially teaching them to read & write by simply writing things as they sound, with no corrections, and later we'd teach them the proper ways to spell.

I told my oldest- who could read before kindergarten- that, under no circumstances, was she to do this BS. She knew how to spell words and was to spell them right, and I'd correct her as necessary.

And, somehow, I didn't ruin her by doing this; she's an amazing reader and still writes well to this day. (Probably spells better than I do, too. Granted, that's not hard to do.)
