The glaringly obvious was pointed out to me in this week's Lying in the Gutters column: Steven Moffat, the writer responsible for the most intense and time-twisty episode of Doctor Who I've ever seen, "Blink,"
is also the writer of the excellent British sitcom Coupling, which routinely plays games with pacing and order of presentation to virtuoso effect.
Quentin Tarantino, eat yer heart out.

Now go watch "Press Gang" for episodes such as Monday-Tuesday, set simultanously on two different days. He wrote that when he was about 21. The bastard.
Steven Moffat will be taking over for Russell T. Davies as head writer and (I think) Executive Producer for Series 5 of Doctor Who.
I really hate to see Davies go, but I think this is a good call.
Odd thing, though, is that Series 5 isn't slotted for "next season." It's planned for 2010. Next year is supposed to be a series of specials, written (I think) by Davies.
But you probably know that already.
Yeah.. although I haven't bothered to really figure out the timing, because of the extra lag that SciFi provides.
But if you follow the link to Rich's column, he reports a rumor that Neil Gaiman might be writing an episode for Moffat. Which made Kathy literally jump up and down and clap her hands.
I so love my wife.
And thanks, Anon! I'll definitely look for that. (And hate him just a little.)
We haven't watched Dr. Who. (I know, I know, that it's a great show. The problem is the time it's on. We have to get the DVDs.) We have, however, been enjoying Coupling on BBCAmerica on Demand. We'd seen a few episodes here and there on PBS over the years and liked it, so it's fun to now watch the whole thing in order.
I really do have to look into those Dr. Who DVDs...
You really should. "Blink" is in the third season of the new series, but you'll have a great time getting to it.
I was telling several people at work that Blink is the best of the new Doctor Who episodes, great sci-fi really.
Also, I love Coupling. Mar gave me the first two seasons on DVD for this past Christmas.
Blink is amazing. In this week's Entertainment Weekly, Neil Gaiman listed the stone angels as one of the top ten monsters of the last 25 years. I have to agree. It's been months since I've seen this episode, and I was freaked out by a garden statue just this Saturday.
This is an ep with amazing staying power. We'll see more of these Angels, I bet.
We're Tivoing Coupling -- have 6 or 7 unwatched episodes on the machine right now. Love it!
