Jacksonville

"They gave me a ticket, pointed me South,
Gave me five hundred bucks to shut my mouth."
--Graham Parker, "I'll Never Play Jacksonville Again"

I'm in a weird place, blog-wise, lately. The election's over, so I don't have the ins and outs of that to blog about anymore. And on the personal side, there's not too much I want to say about getting laid off. There's nothing sinister about it, despite the quote above, but I've never blogged much about work, and don't plan to start now that any applecarts I knock over aren't necessarily my own. And besides, it's depressing.

Blogging about a job search? Even more depressing. What's horrible is that it feels like the only thing I have to talk about, and I can't bear to talk about it, perhaps even less than you all want to hear about it.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll have something to say soon enough. I won't let the radio silence continue for too long.

I have been a lot more personal in my writings than I ever dreamed I would. I find it therapeutic to talk about whatever is on my mind, and if someone doesn't want to read that, it doesn't bother me in the least. I blog for me.

On a personal note, good luck with the job search. I have been fortunate that since 1981 I never been unemployed longer than a week. Before that I went 14 months between jobs.

"Keep your stick on the ice. I'm pulling for you. We're all in this together." You just can't beat advice like that. Good fortune, my friend.

Thanks, man. And I won't shy away from the personal stuff, actually. When I need that catharsis, boy do I go for it. But at the moment, I guess my job travails are boring me, somewhat, so I doubt they'll make good writing.

On the plus side, I just pitched my first feature story. Now all I have to do is research and write it. Piece o' cake!

I haven't had anything to say lately, and I still keep blogging. Even when I have something to say, I don't have time.

I appreciate those who still stop by. And don't worry, we will.

Good luck on the feature!

You will at least let us know if the author couch is anything like the casting couch, right?

In spicy-hot detail, sir! But my experience so far says no.

I just found your blog through another that links to both of ours (http://centernjlife.blogspot.com/) and wanted to say hi. Given that I highly suspect I may get laid off from my own writing job in Central Jersey tomorrow (technically this) morning, which it took me forever to get, I can empathize with what you're going through. Good luck, and please keep up the great blogging!

Oh, man -- good luck, Geoff.

Thanks! Looks like I survived to get laid off another day.

Well, here's hoping that it's a day far in the future.

By the way, are you the Geoff I've been playing D&D with now and again? Either way, welcome to my blog; I've enjoyed what I've read of yours!
